In his Foreword to the book, Zahi Hawass wrote: The pyramids have always captured our hearts. Magic and mystery surround them, filling scholars and the public with wonder that evokes the following question: How did our ancestors, 4,500 years ago, build these magnificent structures, and how did they organize the workforce that was necessary for their construction?

These are the age-old questions that I set out to answer during the more than five years of research I spent on writing this book: how many workers were involved, how long did it take, and how was it done?

Anyone who spends a little time in Egypt looking at the monuments and temples is certain to come away with two conclusions. First, the ancient Egyptians were skilled engineers and builders, and adapted their tools and techniques to the materials and resources available. Second, they were prodigious builders, and therefore obviously found ways to use their prime resourceabundant laborefficiently and economically.

If you accept these two conclusions, many of the alternative theories of constructionincluding extraterrestrial builders from outer spacebecome irrelevant. This being said, there is still much we do not knowand may never knowbut this should not reduce the appreciation we have for the amazing success of these ancient builders.
